Tips to Make Your Stay Comfortable & Safe

Admissions

Admissions

We know you have questions about how to best prepare for your time with us. Here are some helpful hints for your admission to Willow Healing Center at The Meadows:

Items Needed On Arrival

  • Driver’s license or photo ID
  • Insurance ID card (or copy of front and back of card)
  • Contact information for all mental health and medical providers to be informed of the treatment process

What to Pack

Clothing
The high Sonoran Desert climate produces cool mornings, hot days, and cool evening temperature variations. Casual, comfortable clothing (fairly conservative in style) is strongly suggested.

We recommend you pack the following items:

  • Weatherproof jacket
  • Robe
  • Pants/jeans
  • Sweats
  • Tennis shoes
  • Sandals
  • T-shirts (no tanks or sleeveless tops)
  • Athletic apparel (non-spandex)
  • One-piece bathing suit
  • Slip on shoes (recommended for first week)
  • Active wear for outdoor activities

For recreational activities, appropriate apparel includes knee-length shorts and bathing suits. These items may be worn in recreational areas such as the fitness center and pool. Sleeveless shirts and tank-tops are not allowed, so it is recommended to bring a comfortable T-shirt or short-sleeved workout shirt.

Laundry
Patients are free to do laundry during leisure hours. All laundry supplies are provided by Willow Healing Center, including irons. In addition, bed linens and towels are provided on campus.

Toiletries
All personal toiletries brought to Willow Healing Center must be in their original containers. Non-alcoholic mouthwash is allowed. While emery boards are preferred, nail files or clippers (no longer than 1 ½ inches) are allowed on campus. Patients may bring their own electric/battery-operated razors. Disposable or safety razors are permitted but will be held by the Medical Services staff when not in use.

Medications
Any medications you bring to Willow Healing Center must be prescribed by your doctor and in the original containers with prescription labels attached. Medications not labeled and/or with a potential for abuse or dependency will be destroyed upon arrival. A physician at Willow Healing Center will evaluate all medications brought into the facility. For this reason, it is recommended to only bring a 72-hour supply of prescription medications, as we will refill all prescriptions as needed. Willow Healing Center at The Meadows will supply and replenish approved vitamins and supplements at no additional charge.

Smoking Policy

Only patients 21 years of age or older are permitted to smoke, and we provide designated smoking areas. If you smoke, please bring enough for your entire stay, as we do not provide or sell tobacco products on-site.

To maintain a safe and supportive environment, the following are not permitted:

  • ❌ Chewing tobacco
  • ❌ Cigars
  • ❌ Vape pens or e-cigarettes

Miscellaneous

  • Your Primary Counselor will evaluate treatment and recovery-related reading materials (no outside reading materials are permitted).
  • Please bring personal stationary, an address book, stamps, pens, and notebooks.
  • It is recommended to bring a small amount of cash ($200 or less).
  • If you currently have any advance directives or a living will, bring a copy for your medical records.
  • Sugarless gum (but not sugarless candy) is allowed.
  • You may also bring your own pillow.
  • Alarm clocks are provided by Willow Healing Center.
  • For those with dietary restrictions, please note that a variety of food choices are available for vegetarians.
  • Smoking is permitted (minors may not smoke) in designated areas only. Bring enough cigarettes for your estimated length of stay.

Plan to Leave the Following Items at Home

In order to provide a secure recovery environment, Willow Healing Center at The Meadows does not allow certain items on campus. When packing for your stay with us, please leave the following items at home, as they are prohibited:

  • Electronic devices (this includes cameras, laptops, tablets, iPods, CD players, electronic games, musical instruments, or anything not related to recovery)
  • Novels or magazines
  • Fitbits and smart watches
  • Medication not prescribed by a physician
  • Candy (even sugar-free candy), other food, and beverages
  • Sports equipment
  • Hobby materials
  • T-shirts with suggestive messages (sex, drugs, alcohol, etc.)
  • Anything made of spandex
  • Aerosol spray cans (except for shaving cream)
  • Herbal remedies
  • Large amounts of cash (Willow Healing Center is not responsible for personal items kept in a patient’s possession, but we do provide access to a safe.)
  • Pocketknives or tools of any kind
  • Firearms/ammunition
  • Sewing kits
  • Chewing tobacco, cigars, e-cigarettes

Phone Policy

While cellular phones and electronic devices are not allowed, Willow Healing Center at The Meadows allows telephone use during times outside of mandatory scheduled programming. Within the first 24 hours following admission, patients may make an initial phone call to a family member or significant other to check in and let loved ones know they have arrived safely in treatment. After that, in order to allow for full engagement in the treatment process, patients are asked to refrain from making phone calls during their first 14 days of treatment. Exceptions to this rule may be considered, with staff approval, to allow calls for emergencies or contacting minor children. If a friend or family member encounters an urgent situation and need to reach the patient, they may call 877-472-6760.

Internet Access

Due to the fact that a great deal of sexual acting out behaviors can be facilitated by or accessed through the internet, Willow Healing Center places firm boundaries around patient internet access. Internet access is very limited, directly monitored, and must be approved by staff. While patients may be allowed brief access to the internet to plan for discharge, to schedule flights, or address emergencies, we strongly encourage patients to arrange for trusted family members, friends, or colleagues to manage personal, financial, and professional responsibilities while they are in treatment.

Confiscated Items

It is important to remember that all luggage and personal items will be searched upon arrival at Willow Healing Center at The Meadows. Patients may request to be present for the search, during which time any prohibited items will be taken and held by staff until the patient leaves or they can be shipped to the patient’s home address.

Visiting Hours

To maintain a focused and supportive treatment environment, we do not have visiting hours. We understand that this can be challenging, and our team works closely with patients and their families to stay connected throughout treatment.
