Education and Understanding for Loved Ones
Education and Understanding for Loved Ones
When appropriate, we offer family support to provide our patients and their loved ones a safe space to engage in open and honest communication while exploring family relational issues. We also focus on relapse prevention to ensure a smooth transition back to their home environment and daily life. When patients leave our care, they will have an aftercare plan and the support of our robust alumni program to keep them engaged.
Our Family Engagement is designed to:
The decision to involve family in a patient’s treatment is made after admission and a comprehensive assessment. During this process, patients and their family members are encouraged to identify the challenges they are facing and set goals for recovery together.
Family engagement currently consists of a series of emails and phone calls on topics specifically relevant to families impacted by intimacy disorders of love/sexual addiction. Also, patients are asked to hold themselves accountable to their family members for the impact of their addictive behaviors. Family members have an opportunity to share the thoughts and feelings they have experienced while living with their patient. Each family participates in mutual boundary-setting exercises to set limits and improve future interactions and communication. Finally, patients and their family members participate in a discharge planning session to discuss progress in treatment and aftercare options.
Our team is strongly committed to the emotional health and healing of spouses, partners, and families impacted by the consequences of sexually addictive behaviors. We understand that these behaviors often result in hurt, betrayal, and a breakdown in trust between the patient and their family members.
By working together as a family, recovery can continue for a lifetime.
