Trauma Treatment for Women

UNDERLYING TRAUMA CAN IMPACT EMOTIONAL HEALTH, RELATIONSHIPS, AND BEHAVIOR

At Willow Healing Center, we provide trauma-focused residential care for women navigating the effects of past emotional, relational, or sexual trauma. Trauma can influence mental health, relationships, and coping behaviors, including substance use, compulsive behaviors, and patterns of emotional dysregulation.

What We Treat

We support women healing from a range of trauma-related experiences, including:

  • Childhood trauma or attachment wounds
  • PTSD and trauma-related symptoms
  • Domestic abuse or intimate partner violence
  • Military sexual trauma
  • Sex trafficking and exploitation
  • Toxic or unhealthy relational patterns

Trauma may be a primary concern or occur alongside other challenges, such as mood disorders, substance use, or relational difficulties.

Domestic Abuse

  • Also known as intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic abuse affects women across all backgrounds and life experiences
  • Includes emotional, physical, sexual, or psychological harm within a relationship
  • Many women experience patterns of control, manipulation, or fear that can be difficult to leave
  • The impact often extends beyond the relationship, affecting mental health, self-worth, and sense of safety

Military Sexual Trauma

  • Refers to sexual assault or threatening sexual harassment experienced during military service
  • Includes any unwanted sexual activity or experiences where consent was not possible
  • Can affect both active duty members and veterans
  • Often impacts trust, safety, identity, and emotional well-being
  • May be connected to PTSD, anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting after service

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Develops after a traumatic event or the cumulative impact of ongoing trauma
  • May include symptoms such as intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, or emotional reactivity
  • The nervous system can remain in a heightened state of alert, making it difficult to feel safe or at ease
  • Reactions are often automatic and tied to the body’s survival response
  • Trauma-focused therapies can help regulate these responses and support long-term healing

Sex Trafficking

  • Involves experiences of exploitation, coercion, or being forced into sexual activity
  • Some women may not immediately recognize their experiences as trafficking
  • Often includes complex trauma, abuse, and loss of personal autonomy
  • May be connected to challenges such as substance use, anxiety, depression, or difficulty trusting others
  • Healing requires specialized support, safety, and trauma-informed care

Evidence- Based Trauma Treatment

Our care is individualized, trauma-focused, and evidence-based. Programming may include:

  • Trauma therapies such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and psychodrama
  • Experiential and holistic modalities, including equine therapy, expressive arts, mindfulness, and yoga
  • Survivor-focused work inspired by the pioneering research of Pia Mellody, addressing childhood experiences, self-defeating patterns, and relational wounds

Our Therapies

Understanding Trauma

Trauma is often connected to experiences that leave lasting emotional or physiological impacts. These experiences may affect:

  • Anxiety, panic, or hypervigilance
  • Depression, hopelessness, or emotional dysregulation
  • Difficulty forming or maintaining healthy relationships
  • Coping patterns that involve substance use or compulsive behaviors

At Willow, our treatment focuses on identifying these patterns and addressing their root causes, rather than just managing symptoms.

A Women-Centered Environment

Healing in a women-only setting creates space for deeper work around shame, relationships, and self-worth. Many women find it easier to engage fully in treatment when they feel understood and supported by those around them. Willow provides a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment where women can begin to rebuild self-trust and reconnect with themselves.
