Understanding Compulsive Sexual Behavior

Compulsive sexual behavior, recognized in the World Health Organization’s ICD-11, is not about morality or specific behaviors. It is about patterns that begin to take over someone’s life.

It may look like:

  • Feeling unable to stop or control sexual behaviors
  • Using sex or relationships to cope with distress
  • Prioritizing these behaviors over health, relationships, or responsibilities

At Willow, we look beyond the behavior itself to understand what is driving it, often including trauma, attachment wounds, and emotional pain. From there, we help women build healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.

What Treatment Looks Like

Each woman begins with a comprehensive assessment so we can understand her history, patterns, and goals. From there, we build a treatment plan that may include:

  • Individual therapy and small group work
  • Trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing®, and psychodrama
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Post-Induction Therapy (PIT)
  • Experiential work, including the Survivors Workshop
  • Brain-based therapies like neurofeedback and biofeedback
  • Medical and psychiatric support, if needed
  • Nutrition support and whole-person wellness care
  • Family involvement and aftercare planning

Our Therapies

Our Model for Recovery

At the center of care is the Meadows Model, a core pillar that guides how healing happens at Willow Healing Center. This model is rooted in the understanding that many coping behaviors, including those tied to relationships, intimacy, or substance use, develop as ways to manage unresolved trauma and emotional pain.

Through this lens, treatment focuses on:

  • Identifying survival patterns and where they began
  • Understanding how those patterns show up in relationships and daily life
  • Processing underlying trauma in a safe, supported way
  • Building new skills grounded in self-awareness, boundaries, and self-trust

This approach allows women to move beyond cycles of shame or repetition and toward lasting change that supports healthier relationships with themselves and others.

A Women-Centered Environment

Healing in a women-only setting creates space for deeper work around shame, relationships, and self-worth. Many women find it easier to open up and engage fully in treatment when they feel understood by those around them. Willow provides a safe, inclusive, and affirming environment where women can begin to rebuild self-trust and reconnect with themselves in meaningful ways.
